Mirrors are a great alternative for wall art. For a sensational mirror frame, use an old door. Remove the glass or screen and have a glass shop mount a mirror on the back. As a start, consider the size and shape of the mirror. At flea markets, salvage yards, and junk stores you can find old doors for reasonable prices. Look for those with interesting qualities such as carved details, weathered paint, or worn areas in the wood. Screen doors tend to have simpler designs. If you want something more ornate, look for an exterior door. Prices will range from $50 to $125. First, remove old screen or glass. Pull out nails and any other obstructions from the back of the door. You may want to sand the back lightly to smooth the surface so the mirror will mount flush. To make a smaller mirror, saw off part of the door. Before cutting, make sure all hardware and nails are removed from the trim area. Mark a cutting line with a yardstick and a pencil. Using a circular saw, cut through the door following your pencil mark.

Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science is an academic publication providing coverage and analysis of mental health.
The ability to reflect and consider who one is in relation to others is described as the reflexive self. From a sociological perspective, the reflexive self develops in the interaction with others through a process that includes a persons self-efficacy, self-image, self-concept, and self-esteem. Operating to control incompatible views, self-deception and self-discrepancy play an important role in maintaining a consistent and valid self-conception. The experiences of gifted children and adolescents are used to illustrate how the responses of others affect a persons reflexive self. Much of the research on the self in the United States is based on the early work of the pragmatist philosophers: John Dewey (1922), William James (1915), and George Herbert Mead (1934). While Dewey was most influential in the field of education, James inspired psychology and Mead stimulated sociology. As sociologists, we use the theoretical framework of Mead, known as symbolic interaction, to explain how gifted children develop a reflexive self. Symbolic interactionists focus on the symbolic nature of human communication and the development of self as a process involving communication. Words and gestures, the symbols used to communicate, are acquired from the society in which a person lives. The self is viewed as a continuous process that takes place in interaction with others and in self-reflection–the communication with self about self. Because all interaction requires a language, which is socially and culturally given, the society and the individual are inextricably intertwined (Mead, 1934). The pragmatists Dewey, James, and Mead shared two major ideas about the self: that its basic nature is reflexive and that it is defined in interaction with others. To say that the self is reflexive is to say that the self is both subject (I) and object (me), the knower and the known, or put more simply, talking to oneself involves being both the speaker and the listener in an internal dialogue. For example, in response to a mothers query, the child who asks herself, “Why did I hurt my brother?” is engaging in self-reflection on her own motives. The second major idea, that the self is defined through interaction with others, implies that it is by observing the responses of others that a person comes to know and judge who she is. Following the example above, the parental reprimand, “Good girls dont hit!” provides a definition of good girls for the child and, at the same time, implies an evaluation of her actions. In this way, the child comes to see herself from the perspective of her mother; and based on that attitude, she learns to appraise her own behavior.

Executive Summary. Surveys of real estate research priorities for real estate fund managers in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Germany over 2000-03 are examined. Thirty-nine real estate research priorities are assessed, with much closer alignment for real estate research priorities in the U.K., Germany and Australia than seen for the U.S. The role of real estate in a mixed-asset portfolio and real estate and portfolio risk management figure prominently amongst the general real estate research priorities. The top specific real estate research priorities were the impact of capital flows, real estate cycles and real estate portfolio diversification. The underlying general real estate research priorities “dimensions” highlight the strategic issues involved in real estate research, particularly the changing real estate environment, strategic real estate issues and the role of real estate in the portfolio.Real estate research has taken on increased importance in recent years in the international arena. The establishment of the regional real estate societies (particularly ARES, ERES, PRRES and AsRES) and their annual conferences have been key catalysts to this expanded real estate research agenda, with much of this research having a strong real estate industry focus. As such, general real estate research areas have been identified by leading real estate academics in the United States and the United Kingdom (Lusht, 1993; Webb, 1997; Jaffe, 1998; Crosby, 2000; Worzala, 2002; and Adair, Crosby, Lim and Watkins, 2003), as well as by leading U.S. and Australian real estate practitioners (Winograd, 1999; Souza, 2000; Parker, 2001; and Steinert and Crowe, 2001).To more fully assess the real estate research directions and priorities for U.S. institutional investors, extensive real estate industry surveys have been funded by the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF) in 1992 (Ziering and Worzala, 1997) and the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) in 2000 (Worzala, Gilliland and Gordon, 2002), with Newell, Acheampong and Worzala (2002) conducting an equivalent real estate research priorities survey for Australia in 2001. In 2003, equivalent real estate research priority surveys have been conducted in the U.K. (Newell, McAllister and Worzala, 2003) and Germany (Schulte, Newell and Worzala, 2003).Given these significant international real estate research developments, the purpose of this research is to compare the results of these four recent major international real estate surveys to examine the real estate research priorities of real estate fund managers in the U.S., U.K., Australia and Germany. Admixtures: Water resisting - not proofing? I note that there are several articles relating to concrete in the ground in CONCRETE, February 2004. These articles contain claims and statements relating to concrete performance in resisting water penetration. These range from “Waterproofing. can be achieved. by using a water resisting admixture within the concrete.” to “admixtures may be used that provides waterproofing..of concrete” to “watertight concrete”. These article give the impression that concrete is, or can be, made waterproof or watertight with the addition of an admixture. These terms are considered in Concrete Society Technical Report 18 (second edition) A guide to the selection of admixtures for concrete and CIRIA reports 139 and 140 Water-resisting basements. Both documents indicate that concrete cannot be waterproof or watertight in the true meaning of the words since this implies impervious or absolute prevention of penetration by water in liquid and or gaseous form. The correct term that should be used is water-resisting, describing the ability to resist water. This depends on the concrete quality and the effect of any integral admixture. The main function of water-resisting admixtures is to reduce surface absorption and/or passage of water through the hardened concrete. Other benefits such as improved durability may also result from their addition. It is worth noting that BS 8007: 1987 Design of concrete structures for retaining aqueous liquids only requires a certain concrete grade, with limitations on cement content and water/cement ratio to give the necessary water-resisting performance. Water-resisting admixtures are not required. The weak points in any water-retaining or resisting concrete structure are seldom the concrete itself, but cracking and performance of construction and movement joints. These can be controlled with careful design and construction, thereby limiting and subsequent ingress or loss of water.

Abstract The paper examines work regarding adolescent self-esteem, self-efficacy, perceived control, self-determination and self-regulation, and argues for their importance in constructing adolescent distributed learning environments. These interrelated factors are considered critical in adolescent development; therefore, they require support for student success. The paper applies the concepts of self-determination and its value as derived from studies of adolescents with learning disabilities. The author also examines and applies study findings implicating that failure and other deviant behaviors are motivated by self-esteem considerations. The paper concludes with recommendations for fostering self-directed adolescent learners in distributed learning environments. While the human condition may be universal, special considerations may be given to the condition of students entering particular phases of development. During the period of adolescence, a student enters the phase where he or she is making strides toward adulthood. The concepts of self-direction, self-determination, or self-regulation are central to the achievement of adult status in western societies. This development is greatly affected by a students level of self-esteem, self-efficacy, perceived control, and actual autonomy. The relationship between these factors is dynamic rather than static. The learning environment and interactions with it have been shown to contribute significantly to this phase of student development, especially for adolescents. Ultimately, it is in the distributed learning environment where an adolescent will experience the greatest pressure for the development and attainment of self-direction. An adolescent student in such an environment experiences a much higher level of autonomy than afforded in a “traditional” classroom, but will only be effective if he or she can manage it.

Answer: Generally, one cream can be substituted for the other, although they arent the same thing. The difference is the amount of fat in each. Heavy cream has about 36 percent milk fat; whipping cream has about 30 percent. If you want really thick whipped cream, go for heavy cream. Whipping cream, which is a little lighter, can be used in eggnogs and to enrich soups and other savory dishes. In addition to heavy cream and whipping cream, there is also light cream, which is usually 20 percent milk fat, and Half and Half, which is typically 12 percent. Both of these are too light to whip and shouldnt be substituted for either heavy or whipping cream.

AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 8, 1997–HomeCapital Investment Corporation (NASDAQ SmallCap:HCAP)(PCX:HCI) produced home improvement loans and other second mortgage loans for its fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 1997 of approximately $182 million, which represents an 81% increase over the $100 million of loans produced for its 1996 fiscal year. The fiscal 1997 loan production consisted of $163 million of FHA Title I home improvement loans and $19 million of conventional second lien mortgage loans. The Companys FHA Title I loans included approximately $130 million of loans purchased from correspondent lenders, $12 million of loans made directly to consumers, $16 million of loans purchased in bulk from another lender and $5 million of loans originated through dealer/contractors indirectly to consumers. The Companys conventional loans included approximately $18 million of loans made directly to consumers and $1 million of loans originated through loan brokers indirectly to consumers. John W. Ballard, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, said: “We are pleased with the substantial growth in our loan production for fiscal 1997 in comparison to fiscal 1996.
